My Biography

Nuccio DiNuzzo has been a Chicago Tribune staff photographer since 1992. DiNuzzo has covered news and sports for the Tribune at home and abroad, including the tsunami in Sri Lanka and Indonesia in which thousands of people were killed. He was also an embedded photojournalist during the invasion of Iraq by the armed forces in 2003, living and working out of a U.S. Army Humvee for six weeks with another reporter and two armed servicemen.

Among hundreds of sporting events, he covered the Chicago Blackhawks' Stanley Cup-winning run of 2009-'10, the Chicago White Sox' World Series victory in 2005 and the Chicago Bears' loss in the 2007 Super Bowl.

DiNuzzo has also covered seven Olympics: Atlanta (1996); Nagano (1998); Sydney (2000); Salt Lake City (2002); Athens (2004); Turin (2006); and Vancouver (2010).

DiNuzzo followed the Sammy Sosa-Mark McGwire 1998 home run chase and his photograph of McGwire celebrating his 62nd home run was chosen Best of Show by the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Before joining the Tribune, he was staff photographer for Pioneer Press and Des Plaines Publishing Co. A native of Naples, Italy, DiNuzzo moved to the United States when he was 18 years-old and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1986 with a B.A. in Photo Film and Video.
