435 N. Michigan Avenue
Editor, Production/System Asst
After writing, editing or designing for just about every section of the newspaper, Mike now splits time between production (helping to decide how the space in the newspaper is divided between advertising and editorial) and systems (making sure our technology can bring our report to readers in print, online or in any other format that comes down the road).
Mike has written stories for news, features, sports and even a few editorials in 20+ years at the Chicago Tribune, including two columns: Making Waves (for which he received nominations for Sail America's Southam Award) and The Lobbyist (about the experience of going to the movies), but he has spent most of his career in editing and design, winning awards for both headline writing and design.
An avid (if infrequent of late) sailor, Mike was part of the Queen's Cup winning crew of the late Tom Neill's Santa Cruz 70 Nitemare in 2002. He is also known to crack open a history book or 10 just for fun.
