My Role

I cover Bay Rivers District high school sports - primarily football, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball - during the school year. I also cover our local stock car race track, Langley Speedway, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events when they visit Richmond.
My Biography

I have been a full-time sports reporter for 20 years, first as sports editor at the small daily in Suffolk, the Suffolk News-Herald, then as sports editor for three Media General weeklies: the York Town Crier, Poquoson Post and Denbigh Gazette. I have been a full-time member of the Daily Press sports staff for 11 years, since May 1999, covering high school sports, Hampton University and William and Mary sports, NASCAR Sprint Cup and local auto racing.
My Interests

Spending as many vacation hours as possible with family in Nags Head. ...reading, particularly politics and history, and, of course, watching sports. ...University of Kentucky basketball and the New York Yankees. ...also attend the movies alot, documentaries, foreign films, comedies and suspense thrillers being my favorites.

Small tweak to VHSL plan has huge consequences for Bay Rivers 4/23/2012
The Virginia High School League has released its latest tweak to the plan for six classifications (compared to the current three) for state playoffs. The small changes mean that one team each will be added two the "conferences" that include most Bay Rivers District schools, but those two additions will make postseason play more competitive for district schools. Warhill High offensive lineman Parker Osterloh said Saturday that he has made a verbal commitment to play foootball for Virginia Tech. Osterloh is the first Warhill player ever to commit to a FBS (Division I-A) school. Nate Rhea, a four-year starter on the offensive line at Poquoson High, has become the latest Bay Rivers District player to join the startup football program at Division II Alderson-Broaddus College of West Virginia.
