As a copy editor at The Baltimore Sun, I handle articles for print and the Web, editing for content, length, libel, taste and style. Our group of a half dozen, which once numbered nearly 40, provides the critical entry points, including lively headlines and photo captions, that attract readers' eyes to Tribune content.
In nearly 25 years at The Sun, I have edited, copy edited or slotted for zoned editions, metro, national, foreign, business, features and sports, and served as acting night editor. I have been the copy editor on a number of special projects, including "The Shipbreakers," a series by Gary Cohn and Will Englund, which won a Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting in 1998, and a report by Gary Cohn and Ginger Thompson on a CIA-trained Honduran military unit that tortured and murdered suspected subversives with U.S. knowledge, a 1996 Pulitzer finalist for public service.
