The winner of 17 awards from the Virginia Press Association, Mark St. John Erickson covers Hampton Roads history and museums for the Daily Press. In addition to sifting through new exhibits and other museum events for Friday's Ticket and Sunday's Good Life sections, he writes regular feature stories and a blog on local history and archaeology and a bi-weekly column on the region’s visual arts scene.
Mark was born at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and spent his first years with his Navy family living near the boardwalk in Virginia Beach. He lived overseas in the Caribbean and Pacific as well as several other states before returning to Virginia and attending York High School. He graduated from the College of William and Mary and holds a master's degree from the University of Virginia.
Mark's primary interests are his wife, Miriam, and their son, Owen, as well as their families in Virginia Beach and Colombia, South America. He also spends a great deal of time working on his 1947 Hampton One sailboat and his 1924 Old Hampton house. Both he and Miriam are former triathletes attempting to keep themselves fit through recreational running.
