I was born in Denver and grew up in rural Central Missouri. I received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I have worked at newspapers in Anderson, S.C.; Columbia, Mo.; Miami and Orlando.

She flirted with an Italian singer (Jon Hamm of "Mad Men") and used a fountain as a prop in a way that it has never been used on TV before.
