My Biography

I joined the Tribune in 1978 as a reporter and covered city, state and national politics. I joined the editorial board in 1990. I became deputy editorial page editor in 1995 and editorial page editor in 2000. I wrote a weekly column for the Tribune from 1995 to 2000. I was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1994. Under my direction, the editorial board has won a dozen national awards, including the Pulitzer Prize in 2003.
