Reporter Chicago Tribune
My Role

I am a Chicago Tribune reporter, covering Libertyville. My main job requirements include covering government, crime, education and transportation. However, there are many things between those four pillars that I enjoy doing as well--from news features to investigative pieces to photo essays.
My Biography

I was born and raised in Elk Grove Village. I attended District 54 and District 211 schools, and Harper Community College. My mother is a travel agent, so I've been lucky to have been her companion to travel extensively in the country and Europe throughout my life, which I believe set me on a life-long path of exploration. My study abroad experience includes studying British literature and Native Americans at Canterbury Christ Church College in Canterbury, England. I received a bachelors degree in communications in 2002 from Roosevelt University, where I specialized in magazine writing and photography.

I was a reporter and photographer at the Galena Gazette for almost five years, when I worked in a small town family-atmosphere under the direction of my mentors, Carter and Sarah Newton, who allowed me to cover the spectrum of reporting on spot news to investigative stories. Influenced by their drive to always give back to the world around them, they also allowed me to leave my job for a period while I volunteered with the American Red Cross during the Hurricane Katrina aftermath. Then I worked as a news editor in Angel Fire, New Mexico, where I enjoyed the challenge of newsroom management, while reporting and photographing. And I skied whenever I had a chance, too.

After many years of living far from my family, I moved back to the area, and freelanced for Chicago suburban newspapers and photo studios until I was hired as a reporter at TribLocal in December, 2008. I’ve worked with TribLocal as the organization expanded throughout the suburbs, and am now working full-time on learning and reporting everything I can about Libertyville for the Chicago Tribune.

My Interests

Photography, reading, writing, skiing, traveling, museum-hopping, coffee, gardening, yoga, running and Gypsy jazz at the Green Mill. I live in Uptown. I love the nearby neighborhoods, and have a feisty cat named Echo.
