Since 2009, he has had a double beat. As classical music critic, he covers the local orchestras, opera companies, chamber groups and more. As theater critic, he covers the local resident companies and touring productions. In addition to reviewing, he writes feature stories, trend pieces, etc., and maintains a classical music and theater blog.
He was born in Washington, D.C. and earned an M.A. in music history from Occidental College, Los Angeles. After freelancing for the Washington Post and other publications, he worked as music critic for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel before joining the Baltimore Sun.
