I write editorials and some restaurant reviews for The Baltimore Sun.

In my 30 plus years with The Sun I have been a reporter and columnist, writing about life style issues, food and drink. Born in Dodge City , Kansas I am a graduate of the University of Kansas and have a master's degree from Northwestern Univeristy's Medill School of Journalism. A collection of my columns called "Raising Kids and Tomatoes" was published as a book by The Sun

I am an ardent fan of almost every sport, except NASCAR. I have a lifelong interest in barbecue and am still striving to cook the perfect beef brisket and rack of ribs. I am an aficionado of red wine, and craft beer and helped organize the Baltimore Beer Week celebration. I am dutiful if not wildly successful , vegetable gardener. Thanks to my wife, I am cultivating an interest in opera.
