Ned Popkins
Business Editor
My Role

I oversee much of the business coverage in the newspaper and online, including Central Florida Business, the paper's ultra-local Monday section. I work directly with the real estate, theme-park, travel-and-hospitality, technology, banking, energy-and-environment reporters, as well as the consumer editor. I also work indirectly with the workplace columnist and reporters covering restaurants and retail, health care, media, aviation and transportation.
My Biography

I have worked at the Orlando Sentinel since 1984. I was the paper's assistant business editor and then its deputy business editor from 1984-87, and have been business editor since 1995. In between, I served as political editor (1988-89), national/foreign editor (1989-93) and health-environment-space-technology editor (1993-95). I am a 1977 graduate of the University of Connecticut, with a bachelor’s degree in honors English and a minor in journalism. I worked for six years after college at the Journal Inquirer, a suburban daily newspaper near Hartford, Conn., first as a reporter and then as an assignment editor. I also spent a year in Texas on the business desk of the Dallas Times Herald before moving to Orlando and the Sentinel.
