Matthew Conyers

My Role

Conyers is a local sportswriter for The Courant and primarily covers high schools sports. His beats during the school year are boys and girls soccer, boys and girls hockey, boys and girls lacrosse and boys and girls tennis. During the summer months, Conyers covers American Legion baseball through the New England Regional tournament. Conyers also covers the UConn men's soccer team during the Fall and college hockey during the winter months. He specializes in soccer and hockey.

Beyond those jobs, Conyers has covered a wide variety of sporting events while at The Courant, including the Pilot Pen, Travelers, college football, college lacrosse, college basketball, Trinity Squash, Yale Crew, Power Boating, Auto Racing, wrestling, gymnastics, swimming road races, track events, minor league baseball and the WNBA.
My Biography

Conyers was born and raised in Manchester, CT and went to Manchester High School before leaving to attend the University of Maine. Conyers served as the editor-in-chief of the student-run newspaper at Maine as a junior and senior, while working for the Associated Press as a stringer for college athletic events. At Maine, Conyers also developed his love for college hockey. He has since covered five National Championships and seven NCAA tournaments for various websites and newspapers. After college, Conyers was hired by The Courant in September 2007. He has worked on the high school sports desk since being hired and now helps put together the scoreboard page throughout the week.
My Interests

Conyers is an avid distance runner and has completed three marathons, including most recently the 2010 Cape Cod Marathon. He has also run the Manchester Road Race every year since he was in third grade. His other interests include skiing, hiking, soccer, hockey, boating, traveling, bob dylan, good novels and television shows, finding the perfect baseball stadium and visiting every national park in the country. Mostly, he likes adventure and a good cheeseburger.
