The Lehigh Valley Conference's best for 2012-13
5/22/2013
Earlier this week, the Lehigh Valley Conference held a breakfast get-together at Moravian College to salute its scholar-athletes in each sport for the soon-to-end school year. It's great to honor the best athletes and we do it all the time with our all-area teams and player of the year stories. But these individuals below perhaps deserve even more recognition because they got it done on the field, in the classroom and in the community through their various classroom. My congratulations to every on...
District 11 4A softball: Much more of a struggle than expected for LVC teams 5/21/2013
My thinking was that the LVC would sweep its five games against teams from other leagues today in the first round of the District 11 4A tournament, and at least three of the five games would be lopsided.Well, it didn't happen. The LVC only went 3-2 and even the three wins were much closer than expected. Here's a recap:No. 9 Stroudsburg routed No. 8 Whitehall 9-2 and will advance to play No. 1 Pleasant Valley.Stroudsburg 000 040 5 — 9 11 2Whitehall 000 002 0 — 2 5 3M. Liedberg and Kern; Emery,...
Predictions: Expect a LVC sweep today in District 11 4A softball 5/21/2013
The District 11 softball tournament begins with five games in the 4A classification, and, interestingly, all five feature games matching Lehigh Valley Conference teams against teams from other leagues.I see LVC members winning all five games and only two of them will be close:No, 4 Freedom over No, 13 East Stroudsburg South, 11-1.. I don't know if Patriots standout pitcher Emily Gundrum will be back for the district tournament, but it's not going to matter today.No. 5 Liberty over No. 12 Bangor...
Vegas says the Matchup at the Meadowlands will be 49ers vs. Broncos 5/21/2013
All of the hype surrounding new Eagles coach Chip Kelly has given the oddsmakers in Vegas something to consider. The Eagles are a fairly reasonable 40-to-1 longshot to make it up the New Jersey Turnpike to play in the Super Bowl next February. That may seem high, but not nearly as high as the New York Jets who have 100 to 1 odds on playing in their home stadium in the big game or the Arizona Cardinals, who are a 200 to 1 pick.Vegas is going with a 49ers-Broncos Super Bowl for now with the Patriot...
Stellar Summer High School Basketball League set to begin on June 4 5/20/2013
What I believe is a record 24 teams will participate in the Stellar Summer High School Basketball League at Cedar Beach beginning on June 4.Ten Lehigh Valley Conference schools, including two teams each from Central Catholic and Freedom, will be involved. Emmaus and Easton are not fielding teams in the league. Six Colonial League teams will be involved as well as Boyertown, Faith Christian, Lincoln Leadership, Muhlenberg Township, Quakertown and Pleasant Valley. That means there will be 12 games...
