My Role

I cover the town of Manchester, some issues and events in Eastern Connecticut and statewide news of all varieties _ from mass murder to escaped exotic animals.
My Biography

Almost 25 years with The Courant as reporter and editor.

Raised in New Britain, Conn., one of four children. Graduated Pulaski High School, 1979; U.S. Army, heavy equipment operator at posts in Germany and Ft. Knox, Ky. from 1979-83; attended Central Connecticut State University. Married to Lynn Leavenworth, a public school reading tutor, with three children, Kerry, Kathleen and John. I free-lanced for The Courant starting in 1986, was hired as a staff writer at the paper in 1987. I have been both a reporter and editor, working mostly on the state desk, but also for features.
My Interests

U.S. and Connecticut history. I was one of two writers of a series called "Page From History" for The Courant in the 1990s. Front pages from The Courant's 200-plus years were reproduced on one side of a page; the other was a detailed explanation of the key event on that day's page _ Pearl Harbor, for example. I also like to read short stories, true crime and like to write about odd-ball people and situations, veterans' experiences, historic events and places. Love vintage American cars.
