Born in Kirkwood, Missouri. Grew up in Newport, R.I. Played organized sports through high school. Received Bachelor of Journalism degree from University of Missouri School of Journalism. Worked at newspapers in Michigan and New Jersey before joining the Courant in 1984. Covered the Hartford Whalers and the NHL for 11 years. Have been the general sports columnist for 15. Eight time Connecticut Sports Writer of the Year. Among numerous awards, twice honored as one of Top 10 national columnists. Married to Liz since 1987. We have two children, Katie, a freshman at Southern Connecticut and Liam, a seventh grader.
