I was born in Denver and grew up in rural Central Missouri. I received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I have worked at newspapers in Anderson, S.C.; Columbia, Mo.; Miami and Orlando.

Travel, art museums, Broadway and movies, especially from Hollywood's golden age.
