My Biography

Born in New York and raised in the US Virgin Islands, Doreen pursued Caribbean and Latin American studies in college, with a focus on economic development. After semesters in Spain, Texas and Peru, she worked five years in South America and nine years in Puerto Rico, mainly for U.S. business publications and local English-language newspapers, including Caribbean Business and The San Juan Star. She earned an MBA at Columbia University on Knight-Bagehot and Wiegers fellowships. She joined the SunSentinel in 1996 and reported in China, Cuba, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Jamaica and other nations, including a four-month stint in Havana in 2006. She's now is spreading her wings into more consumer-focused coverage.
