Bureau Chief, Photo
Staff photographer and assignment editor in the Westchester office. Technically, I am the bureau chief, but I'm the bureau. It's a hybrid position, spending my time mainly shooting assignments and working with the bureau editors and reporters to make sure stories have photo assignments. I also help cover any stories from the Tower.
I was not born in a log cabin, but a three-flat in Albany Park. I graduated from NIU with a journalism degree in 1974. I worked for the Freeport Journal-Standard, the Woodstock Daily Sentinel (as a photographer and reporter), the Waukegan News-Sun before coming to the Suburban Trib in 1978. Then the staffs were slowly merged into the Chicago Tribune. I live in Oak Park with Tribune reporter Barbara Brotman and our wonder dog Scout. Our two daughters, Robin, 22, and Nina, 19, have provided Barbara much fodder for her columns over the years, only embarrassing them a little.
History, reading, movies, good TV, golf, breakfast in diners, lounging about and lately, bird watching.
